The land of the Otamatea Eco Village is about 102 ha (250 acres) in total and was purchased specifically to be developed into an eco-village in 1997. We have resource consent from the Kaipara District Council to have fifteen separate titles.
Purchasers need to familiarise themselves with the vision statement and the current Agreements. The Agreements are referred to in the title documents of all lots in the eco-village and form part of each title. These Agreements for how we might best conduct village affairs come from consensual decisions made in Community Meetings, and generally reflect the principles embodied in the village vision statement (above).
Each of the 15 freehold titles is for about 7 ha, being 2 ha (5 acres) privately owned and managed, and 1/15th of the 72 ha (175 acres) which is owned and managed in common. Resource consent allows for most lots to have two main dwellings per block plus a number of accessory buildings. As the lots are privately owned the sale price of a lot is agreed to between the lot owner and the purchaser.
All of our lots have now been sold but occasionally one will come up for sale again. Currently three properties are available for purchase.
